About The School of Interpretive Somatics
The School of Interpretive Somatics is a New York-based training institute offering a multi-year, immersive somatic education that integrates therapeutic body-based modalities, creative expression, and leadership development.
This program combines traditional therapeutic models with somatic practices in a creative laboratory. Through experiential learning, students will explore both their own individual journey and group process work. Rather than a top-down teaching method, this school is a co-creation with all of the participants and faculty.
This training is for artists and leaders in various fields who want to bring the interpretive somatics principles into many areas of their life and work, as well as for people who would like to become practitioners themselves. We value curiosity and rigor, as we continue to challenge and evolve the possibilities of somatic healing in our lives and communities.
A Multi-Year Training Path
The School offers two paths of study:
Three-Year Leadership Track: A program for those wishing to deepen their personal journey and develop leadership capacities without pursuing professional certification.
Four-Year Practitioner Track: A professional certification track preparing graduates to work directly with clients and groups as somatic practitioners.
Each year combines three in-person intensive modules with two online modules, balancing immersive community learning with integration into daily life. Along the way, students engage in personal therapeutic work, mentorship, and creative or community-based projects that ground their training in lived experience.
Years 1 & 2: Foundational study in somatic practice, supported by required individual sessions with a practitioner or therapist.
Year 3: Continued deepening, paired with the design and completion of a personal or community project, guided by mentorship.
Year 4: Practitioner training, including client work under supervision, ensuring readiness to enter the field with skill and integrity.
